Wine and cheese matching is generally one of  the trickiest in food and wine matching. Wine and cheese matching is tough due to the wide varieties of cheese available like the wine itself. Both of them vary from producers to maturities. Being similar in these aspects are certainly not an added advantage when try to match wine and cheese.

It can also be very gluey and mouth coating.These taste bud-challenges together with that of the wine certainly make the wine and cheese matching even more complex than ever. Contrary to the original wine and cheese matching principles, dry white tends to match better than the dry red. On top of that, the sweet and full-bodied wine are generally better than the dry and light bodied counterpart. Quick tips for cheese and wine matching 

  • Choose cheese produced from the same wine regions if possible would certainly be one of the easiest guide.
  • Hard Cheese with dry and medium to full-bodied Red
  • Soft Cheese with burgundy White and matured Red
  • Blue Cheese with aged tawny Port or matured Rioja from Spain (Espania)
  • Goat Cheese with Sauvignon Blanc

The above are just some quick tips for selecting the cheese to match the wine or vice versa. They generally do not consider the age of the cheese. In order to match the wine and cheese more perfectly, consideration of the maturity of cheese is certainly preferable. Well... experiment boldly with your wine and cheese matching... ...
